WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU ARE SETTING A BOUNDARY

You don't have to overexplain. You don't have to feel guilty. Here are simple, loving phrases that protect your peace and your power:

If you need space:

→ "I'm not in the right headspace to talk right now, but I care about you." →"I need some alone time to recharge-I'll check in when I can."

If you're saying no:

→ "That doesn't work for me, but I hope it goes well!"

→ "I'm not available for that, but thank you for thinking of me."

If someone crosses a line:

→"That comment didn't sit well with me. I'd like to keep this respectful." →"I'm not okay with that. Let's change the subject."

If you're setting a boundary with love:

→ "I care about this relationship, and I need [] to feel safe in it."

→ "I'm working on protecting my energy, and this is part of that."

If you need to exit a convo:

→ "This feels heavy for me right now can we revisit it later?"

→"I need to step away from this conversation, but we can connect again soon."

You can be direct and still be kind. You can protect your energy without apologizing for it.

Setting boundaries isn't about being rude, cold, or pushing people away, it's about protecting your energy, your time, and your mental health. When you don't set boundaries, you end up over giving, over explaining, and feeling quietly resentful, while others get comfortable crossing lines you never drew. Boundaries are you saying, "I matter too," without needing permission or justification. They help you show up as your best self, not a burnt-out version running on guilt and obligation. And yes, some people may feel uncomfortable when you start setting them, but that discomfort often says more about what they were benefiting from than anything about you. You're allowed to say no, to change your mind, to take space, and to choose what feels safe and healthy for you. Boundaries don't push the right people away, they teach others how to treat you and give you the freedom to breathe, grow, and feel at peace
